Here is a video putting a Nikon D70 and Canon 400D to a durability test which includes stabbing, bumping and torching the camera. Its amazing to see what an entry level DSLR can go through and still remain functional.
I have had my share of experience with my Nikon D70s a few years ago when it fell and rolled. I thought I broke it but up to now it is still a working horse.
